"The Shelf Behind The Door" When first I came to Jesus With my load of guilt and sin I asked Him to forgive me And He freely took me in He cleansed my soul from idols And filled my heart with joy And gives me peace and happiness Old Satan can't destroy The shelf behind the door The shelf behind the door Tear it down, throw it out Don't use it any more For Jesus wants His temple clean From ceiling to the floor He even wants the corners clean Just in behind the door There's many people of today Profess to love the Lord They say, their doing all His will And trusting in the Word But yet their always grumbling Do you know the reason why? Tis, because they have some idols That they're keeping on the sly Some love the filthy weed, you know And some the social glass Some say, they'd rather dance than eat Some idolize their dress And 'er they get their hearts put right They give the constant o'er And put them on that little shelf That's in behind the door O, how the Gospel chariot would Go sweeping through the land O, how the Christian soldiers They would fight at God's command O, how the work of Jesus Would spread from shore to shore If it were not for that little shelf That's in behind the door ~Author Unknown~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Little Note from Cobblestone Road Ministries: James 4:7-10 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. May God help us that our "walk" would always mirror our "talk." As we look to the Lord to help us put away all idols, He will empower us to live for Him. Apart from the Lord Jesus, we can do nothing. Matthew Henry comments in his commentary on James 4: We have great encouragement to act thus towards God: He will draw nigh to those that draw nigh to him (Jam_4:8), and he will lift up those who humble themselves in his sight, Jam_4:10. Those that draw nigh to God in a way of duty shall find God drawing nigh to them in a way of mercy. Draw nigh to him in faith, and trust, and obedience, and he will draw nigh to you for your deliverance. If there be not a close communion between God and us, it is our fault, and not his. He shall lift up the humble. Thus much our Lord himself declared, He that shall humble himself shall be exalted, Mat_23:12. If we be truly penitent and humble under the marks of God's displeasure, we shall in a little time know the advantages of his favour; he will lift us up out of trouble, or he will lift us up in our spirits and comforts under trouble; he will lift us up to honour and safety in the world, or he will lift us up in our way to heaven, so as to raise our hearts and affections above the world. God will revive the spirit of the humble (Isa_57:15), He will hear the desire of the humble (Psa_10:17), and he will at last life them up to glory. Before honour is humility. The highest honour in heaven will be the reward of the greatest humility on earth.
