"Psalm One" The Happiness of the Righteous and the Misery of the Wicked. 1 Blessed is the man who shuns the place Where sinners love to meet; Who fears to tread their wicked ways, And hates the scoffer's seat: 2 But in the statutes of the Lord Has placed his chief delight; By day he reads or hears the Word, And meditates by night. 3 He, like a tree of gen'rous kind, By living waters set, Safe from the storm and blasting wind, Enjoys a peaceful state. 4 Green as the leaf, and ever fair Shall his profession shine; Whilst fruits of holiness appear Like clusters on the vine. 5 Not so the impious and unjust; What vain designs they form! Their hopes are blown away like dust, Or chaff before the storm. 6 Sinners in judgment shall not stand Among the sons of grace, When Christ the Judge, at His right hand Appoints His Saints a place 7 His eye beholds the path they tread, His heart approves it well; But crooked ways of sinners lead Down to the gates of hell. ~ By WATTS ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Additional Note from Cobblestone Road Ministries: The above poem was featured in a very old book of devotionals, written in the 1800s. Let us now read Psalms One from the KJV: Verse 1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. The scornful means "mockers" or "scoffers." Those who mock God, righteousness, goodness, etc. Verse 2: But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Verse 3: And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Verse 4: The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Verse 5: Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. Verse 6: For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. Psalm One declares that the ungodly shall perish. And all of us were ungodly before we received the Lord Jesus as our personal Savior. If you are born-again and have received Christ, by faith, then you are a Saint and shall not come under condemnation. In Christ, we have been DECLARED righteous. We, as Christians, have passed from death unto life and we stand in His righteousness alone. Romans 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. The Lord Jesus said in John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
