Another year is over and 2013 is beginning. What does the new year hold? Can anyone predict the future? Only God knows and what a reassuring thought that He is always preparing the way before us.
Let us be thankful that the Lord our God has brought us into a new year; and with every new year we are one year closer to Christ's return. The Lord Jesus told us to "occupy" until He come (Luke 19:13). We are not to get involved with doomsday news reports but rather know that it is God who controls the future and that our lives are held in His mighty hands.
Isaiah 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure
Our prayer for 2013 is that we and our readers grow deeper in the understanding and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
2Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
With so much turmoil and confusion in the world, there is refuge in our Savior-- He knows the future. He will lead us through this year and we need not fear anything. 2Timothy 1:7 says, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
We trust in God-- His Word tells us that He is our Rock and our Shield. Some people are already worried about what this new year will bring. The news reports can be troublesome...sensationalism for those who worry but God commands us not to worry, only to trust Him.
2 Samuel 22:31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.
Psalm 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Isaiah 44:8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
What should we, as Christians be doing in the coming new year?
1. Read God's Word - Make Bible reading the highest priority. 2. Prayer - The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. 3. Pray for one another 4. In all things, give thanks. 5. In all circumstances, praise the Lord. 6. Share the Gospel message with others, as the Holy Spirit leads 7. Keep oneself unspotted from the world 8. Help the orphans and widows and those in need, as we are able.
Ephesians 3:14-21 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
